10-Day Rwenzori Mountain Hike
The 10-day Rwenzori Mountain Hike trek can be completed in 7 days, known as the “Central Circuit trail”, and takes 6 Nights/7 Days. It will allow you to see the main Mountains. You may extend the number of days to climb the peaks.
Rwenzori Mountains National Park covers 996 km, and it protects the slopes of the Rwenzori Mountains, which run for 120 km along the Congo border. The raised mountains are from the formation of the rift valley. The Rwenzori Mountains are Africa’s highest mountain range, with six glacial peaks, including Mount Stanley, Mount Speke, Mount Emin Pasha, Mount Gessi, Mount Luigi da Savoia, and Mount Baker. The main peaks on Mount Stanley, Margarita at 5,109m and Alexandra at 5,083m, are exceeded in altitude elsewhere in Africa only by Kilimanjaro and Mount Kenya.
Day 1: Arrival.
You will meet our representative at Entebbe Airport and transfer to your hotel in Kampala. Check in at Jevine Motel (Budget), Hotel Le Bougainvillaea (Mid-Range), or Imperial Royal (Luxury)
Day 2: Kampala – Kasese
Transfer to Kasese town via Kampala, then head to the foothills of the Mountains of the Moon. Check in at Rwenzori International (Budget) or Hotel Margheritah Mid-Range for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: Climb Nyabitaba
Begin by heading to Nyakalegija (1600 m to start your 5-6 hour climb into the mountains. Your climb takes you through thick Equatorial vegetation before arriving at the Nyabitaba hut (2650 meters) in the late evening for Dinner and Overnight.
Day 4: John Matte
Have an early breakfast and then start a morning hike through the Kurt Shaffer Bridge to marvel at the sparkling Mobuku River confluence. A climb through the open patches, Lobelia, and Heath moss forest before proceeding up to the John Matte hut overnight.
Day 5: Bigo Bog
Depart early through the giant Lobelias and heath trees. You ascend to the Bigo Bog and the scenic landscape of Lobelias and giant Groundsels. Dinner and overnight stop at Bujuku hut (3997 meters).
Day 6: Mount Speke
Head off from the valley with scenic alpine vegetation consisting of Giant Groundsel and Lobelia, and head on to ascend Mount Victoria and Mount Speke at (4890 meters).
Day 7: Proceed to Elena Hut
Depart through the lovely views of the Savoia and Elena glaciers, scale further through to the Scott Elliott pass (4372 meters) and proceed through the snow to the Elena hut overnight.
Day 8: Alexander Peak
Early morning ascent to the snowy Alexander Peak (5092m), then onward to the highest peak (5109m). Great photo opportunities are available. Thereafter, descend to the beautiful Lake Kitandara for an overnight stay at the Kitandara hut. (3900m).
Day 9: Guy Yeaman
After an early breakfast, the descent begins. Picnic lunch on the way, after which we resume the journey to Guy Yeoman hut for dinner and overnight.
Day 10: Return to Nyabitaba and transfer to Kampala to catch your flight back home.
