6 Day Rwanda Chimpanzee and Gorilla Safari

This 6 Day Rwanda Chimpanzee Canopy and Gorilla Safari is ideal for travellers keen on adventurous primate-tracking expeditions in Rwanda. Both Nyungwe Forest National Park and Volcanoes National Park are habitats for a wide range of primates, including chimpanzees and Gorillas.

Day 1: Arrival in Kigali

Our tour guide will pick you up at the Airport and transfer you to your Hotel. Check in at your Hotel and have lunch. After lunch, we shall embark on a City tour of Kigali, including visits to the Kigali Genocide Memorial Centre and the Central Business District.

Day 2: Kigali to Nyungwe Forest National Park

After an early breakfast at the Lodge, you’ll head south with your tour guide. You will stop at Nyanza Palace for a tour of the palace, which was the traditional home of Rwanda’s former kings. There will also be a lunch stopover en route to Nyungwe Forest National Park.

Check in at the Lodge for your Dinner and overnight stay.

6 Day Rwanda Chimpanzee Canopy and Gorilla safariDay 3: Chimpanzee tracking and Afternoon canopy walk

After an early morning breakfast at the Lodge, you will head to the Park headquarters for an 8:00 a.m. briefing. Nyungwe Forest is by far the largest montane rainforest in East and Central Africa and is home to 13 primate species, 275 bird species, and 38 reptile species.

After your morning Chimpanzee tracking expedition, you will return to the Lodge, relax and have lunch. In the afternoon, after your lunch break, you will step out for a canopy walk in the Park.

Dinner and overnight stay at the Lodge.

Day 4:  Transfer to Volcanoes National Park

Enjoy breakfast at the Lodge early this morning before departing north for Volcanoes National Park. You will have a lunch stopover en route to Volcanoes National Park. Dinner and overnight stay at your preferred Lodge/Hotel.

6 Day Rwanda Chimpanzee Canopy and Gorilla safariDay 5: Gorilla Tracking in Volcanoes National Park

After an early breakfast at the Lodge, you will head to the Kinigi briefing area. There, Park officials will brief you on the day’s activities and assign you to a gorilla trekking groupGorilla tracking lasts anywhere between 2 and 8 hours, depending on the location of the Gorillas on that particular day.

After successfully tracking the gorillas, you will stay in proximity to the Gorillas for an hour, after which you will return to your Lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, you will visit the Iby’iwachu cultural village for a local musical performance by a cultural troupe. Have Dinner at the Lodge.

Day 6: Golden Monkey tracking and transfer back to Kigali

You’ll eat breakfast at the Lodge and then head to the Kinigi visitors centre for a briefing. With the help of the Park rangers, you will head to the Park’s open fields to start tracking the Golden Monkeys. Golden Monkey tracking takes anywhere between 1 and 2 hours, after which you will return to your Lodge to pack up your belongings and transfer to Kigali.
